We vote so that we #DontFallBack
Every Election Matters
From school board to U.S. president, elections at every level effect our day-to-day lives. 2023 is a local election year, which means that most of us will be voting for local school board members and city council candidates. Elected officials are in the position to affect change throughout our greater Topeka community:
Affordable housing initiatives
Accessibility and public transportation
Local tax levies
Public school budgets and policies
Violence prevention and response
Infrastructure such as local roads and utilities
Local public health policies and emergency response
In many ways, local elections are a much more intimate expression of our values. We're voting for our neighbors, and voting for the well-being of our neighbors.
Kansas Speaks: Annual Public Opinion Survey
Each year, the Docking Institute for Public Affairs at Fort Hays State University conducts a statewide public opinion survey. The recently released 2023 survey results show that over two-thirds of Kansans support issues and policies that strengthen Kansas families:
69.6% support expanding Medicaid in Kansas.
63.5% believe that women are in a better position than politicians to decide whether to get an abortion.
71.6% are concerned about rising housing costs.
74.6% support using tax dollars for public education.
This one report doesn't cover every single issue represented by our ballots, but the results are clear: Kansans want to live in communities where women and families are empowered to thrive.
